This drive explores the majestic kanamaluka/Tamar River from Launceston to Bass Strait. Stretching from Relbia in the south to the mouth of the river as it meanders for nearly 60km, it is an easy picturesque drive from Launceston – although you may want to stay a while to take it all in.
Whether you travel up the eastern side to George Town and Low Head via Pipers Brook or up the West Tamar to Beaconsfield you will travel though premium vineyard country past orchards, scenic pastures and forests.
On the way, you'll be able to enjoy some of the finest artisanal products available at cafes and restaurants championing local produce, including premium cool-climate wines on the Tamar Valley Wine Route showcasing why Launceston was awarded the UNESCO City of Gastronomy status.
From penguin tours at Low Head, or Wombats at Bakers Beach Narawntapu National Park, mountain biking at George Town or farm gates with seasonal bounty to tempt you, the Tamar Valley has something for everyone and will leave you wanting more!
