How to get here

As Tasmania is Australia's Island State, unless you are a rather good swimmer, there are only two ways to enter the State, either by plane or by ferry.

More than a quarter of all visitors to Tasmania enter the state through Launceston Airport, the welcoming and picturesque gateway to northern Tasmania, recently nominated as “Major Airport of the Year” by the Australian Airports Association.

The airport is located just 15km from the city of Launceston and serves more than 1.3 million passengers annually, with recent upgrades now showcasing the very best of Tasmania’s produce and products.

Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Qantaslink all operate frequent affordable direct services between Launceston and Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. Check their respective websites for schedules and the latest deals. Not that you needed another excuse to visit our patch, but for extra sharp pricing see Jetstar's latest offers by clicking here.

To access the rugged and wild landscapes of pristine Flinders Island Sharp Airlines offers a Melbourne to Flinders Island service, departing from Essendon Airport.

For some, it is weighing up the benefits between flying and hiring a car when you arrive, or catching the ferry and bringing your own vehicle. Prices do fluctuate throughout the year according to season and availability, so make sure you do a little research prior to booking.

Spirit of Tasmania is one of Australia's most iconic travel experiences and makes travelling across Bass Strait flexible, convenient and easy. The twin ships depart both ports nightly as well as daily in peak season. Departing from Geelong, Victoria and Devonport, Tasmania you will experience unparalleled views and fresh air on the outside decks, with plenty of facilities onboard to make your journey comfortable. Best of all, you can bring your vehicle and explore Northern Tasmania at your own pace. To find out more and make a booking, visit Spirit of Tasmania.
