Island to Island Tour

Day 1

  • Arrive at Flinders Island airport to a friendly greeting and an awaiting rental car. For information on how to get to Flinders Island click here.
  • Whitemark is the island’s largest settlement and is often the first stop to grab supplies, a handy visitors map and even the odd snippet of local advice on how best to explore the island.
  • Don't go further until you've stopped by The Flinders Wharf, their cafe providore is a showcase of local produce that is of a rare quality found anywhere in the world. Transition to 'island time' and watch the world and local characters go by over coffee or a bite to eat and peruse artworks created by local artist Maria LaGrue.
  • A favourite day trip suggested by locals is to start your day in Lady Barron, 20 minutes from Whitemark. Visit the port area or walk to Yellow Beach. Drive north to Cameron Inlet, the perfect example of Flinders Island's renowned wetlands, waterbirds and remote beaches. Visit the Patriarchs to the east then follow Lees Road to Patriarch Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • Suggested place to eat tonight is Flinders Island Interstate Hotel in Whitemark for a pub style meal.
  • This evening Island Quarters have your accommodation needs covered with modern and spacious one bedroom self contained sanctuaries in the heart of Whitemark. A stone's throw from all facilities, this is the place to stay & play.

Day 2

  • From Whitemark, head north to Killiecrankie for a classic adventure hunting for ‘Killiecrankie Diamonds’ you could be taking home a topaz as blue as the waters that surround the island.
  • On the way discover the often untold story of Flinders Island’s indigenous past at Wybalenna. The graveyard contains unmarked Aboriginal graves along with graves of some of the first European settlers. This captivating story is recorded in the Aboriginal room of the Furneaux Museum located nearby at Emita which houses relics from shipwrecks amongst other artefacts.
  • If you are up for walking off the decadent local produce you've devoured, Castle Rock is one of Tasmania's Great Short Walks and departs from nearby Allport Beach. A 2.5 hour return trek the walk will have you crossing stunning coastal hinterlands culminating at the massive boulder fondly known as Castle Rock.
  • At Killiecrankie stop for some time out at the picnic area, be sure to select a few of the local goodies at The Flinders Wharf before setting out, then try your hand at hunting for Killiecrankie Diamonds, bring a sieve and shovel.
  • Spend the afternoon relaxing in and around the township or fossick amongst the granite boulders dotted near Diamond Gully at the northern end of the Bay.
  • The team from The Flinders Wharf come up with the goods again but tonight in terms of offering up The Cray Shack, a refurbished beach house located in Killiecrankie. Featuring a larder serviced by the providore or hosted meals upon request, your Flinders dinner feast is all but taken care of. Pause. Listen. Reconnect. This accommodation achieves all of this and more.
