Every year we dust off our thermals, break out our beanies and get ready to dive into the Off Season, or as some may call it - winter!
Tassie comes alive with quirky events, hearty winter treats, toasty open fires and snow capped peaks. And with plenty of special offers available only during the Off Season, isn't time to treat yourself to a winter holiday?

FOR THE SNOW BUNNIES
Love snow? Never seen it, been dreaming about it? In Northern Tasmania, snow is on our doorstep and a snow filled adventure is within easy reach with a day out at Ben Lomond National Park.
Jump in the car and take a 40-minute drive from Launceston to the foot of Ben Lomond National Park. First stop, Ben Lomond BASE, here you can gear up with everything you need for a day in the snow and fuel up with a warm snack from the cafe. Pop some snow chains on your wheels before ascending the famous Jacobs Ladder, a gravel road with a series of switchbacks that takes you to the ski fields and top of Ben Lomond, or take it easy, letting someone else do the driving with a convenient shuttle service.
Ben Lomond is the only commercial ski field in Tasmania and home to the second highest peak, Legges Tor, where on a clear day you can see all the way to kunanyi/Mt Wellington in the south.
WINTER FOOD TO WARM YOUR SOUL
Gather around a table brimming with hearty winter dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. In Launceston, a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, the region's abundant produce and the creativity of local chefs shine, making it a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts.
Indulge in award-winning restaurants, savour a sweet treat from a local bakery, fill your basket with fresh produce from the farmers' market, or enjoy a cosy meal in a laid-back café. Pair it all with a warming sip of locally distilled gin or whisky, or explore the elegance of some of the world's finest cool-climate wines.
From paddock to plate, Launceston serves up a true taste of Tasmania.
HIDDEN GEMS AROUND EVERY CORNER
Take yourself on an adventure in search of hidden gems. Lace up your walking shoes and take a short walk along misty trails leading to pretty waterfalls and peaceful rock pools or test your limits with a bit of scrambling to reach a lofty summit. Winter is a great time for taking a short hike. In the Great Western Tiers and Meander Valley you will find plenty of short walks. Fuel up for your walk with breakfast and coffee in the towns of Westbury or Deloraine.
Derby is famous as a mountain biking mecca. With everyone keen to hit the trails during summer, spring and autumn, you might think 'what can I do there in winter'? Well for off-bike activities think, wellness, waterfalls and walks. The Blue Tier Regional Reserve is steeped in fascinating mining history with the remains of heritage sites dotted across the mountains and home to Australia's widest tree, Blue Tier Giant Tree. Climb up to the sub-alpine boulder landscapes where you will be rewarded with spectacular mountain top views that on a clear day reach as far as Flinders Island. Derby is central to some magnificent waterfalls that are iconic to Tasmania such as Ralph Falls, St Columbia Falls and Halls Falls. After all that walking and waterfall hunting it's time to warm up at the Floating Sauna, followed with a bite to eat in town.
