Waverley Woollen Mills Tours

Located on the banks of Distillery Creek in Launceston, Waverley Mills is Australia's oldest continuously operating weaving mill and the last mill of its kind still spinning, weaving and finishing textiles on one site.

Established in 1874, Waverley Mills has been crafting premium wool textiles for over 150 years. Today it remains proudly Australian owned, working exclusively with natural fibres and transforming Tasmanian-grown wool into blankets, throws and scarves renowned for their quality and durability. The mill has a long history of innovation, being one of the first industrial sites in Australia to harness hydroelectric power, and is now the only mill in Australia commercially recycling wool fibre at scale.

The Waverley Mills guided tour offers a rare opportunity to step inside a working textile mill. Visitors experience the complete journey of wool — from raw fibre through carding, spinning, weaving and finishing — while witnessing heritage machinery operating alongside modern technology.

Tours share stories of craftsmanship, resilience and sustainability, including Waverley's commitment to zero textile waste to landfill and its circular manufacturing model.

Concluding in the Mill Store, guests can explore a curated collection of Tasmanian-made textiles and take home a piece of living Australian manufacturing history.
