Visit Northern Tasmania (VNT) is proud to present the Northern Events & Festivals Infrastructure Strategy.
In 2025, the Tasmanian State Government provided funding to VNT through a grant deed to develop a northern events strategy. A similar strategy was already underway in the south of the State but it was recognised there were significant differences in the types of events held in both regions and different infrastructure requirements.
Under the governance of a broad multi skilled Reference Group, supported by a Working Group comprising on-the-ground subject matter experts, and with extensive consultation across a myriad of stakeholders, VNT worked with Right Angle to develop this Strategy. Right Angle also developed the Launceston Convention Facilities Demand Study for VNT in 2025.
There are 5 themed recommendations:
- Stronger Together
- This is how the events and festivals industry in northern Tasmania grows its voice, expands its audience and increases its effectiveness working with government and sponsors
- Unlock Existing Spaces
- Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. The North has a number of public and private places that could be better utilised for events and festivals.
- Support New Multi-Spaces
- Increase Launceston’s share of the business and recreational event market by providing fit for purpose facilities with ancillary uses that reduce the financial risk in the venue and increase its appeal
- Establish a CBD Events & Festival Precinct
- This is the opportunity to define and events and festivals precinct to drive funding for events infrastructure and increase collaboration between landowners, businesses and the events industry
- Nurture Local Talent
- This recommendation seeks to encourage good growth in the events and festivals calendar by identifying and supporting local activity that is additive rather than duplicative to the current program.
The Tasmanian State Government endorsed this Strategy on Friday 18 September 2026.
