Time for a culture fix
Walk off breakfast with a stroll to City Park, a tranquil spot in the heart of the Launceston - say hi to the local residents at the Japanese Macaque Monkey exhibit. From here it is a leisurely 10 minute walk to QVMAG Museum at Inveresk, home to Launceston's natural science and history collections.
Seek out adventure
Penny Royal Adventures is the place to go for an adrenalin fix. Experience the thrill of the Cliff Walk as you make your way across a dozen rope bridges suspended above the Penny Royal, or challenge yourself on the indoor and outdoor rock climbing walls. Grab a Cliff Pass and take flight with fast and scenic zips. If you are up for it the pass also includes a 20m cliff jump, the cliff walk and outdoor rock climbing.
Families can also enjoy the gold panning, gemstone fossicking, barefoot sensation, remote controlled boats and the Dark Ride adventures at the Penny Royal.
Cataract Gorge - nature on the doorstep of Launnie
A short walk from the city centre you will find Cataract Gorge. Not only is it visually breath-taking, but it also has everything you need for a fun day out in nature including a range of walking & hiking trails, a scenic chairlift, gorgeous gardens, and scenic lookouts.
Take it easy and enjoy the view from the Gorge Scenic Chairlift. Take in the spectacular features of Cataract Gorge from this single-span chairlift. View the South Esk River as well as tree rhododendrons and fern glades. It takes about ten minutes for the ride across Cataract Gorge and First Basin.
Cruise the Tamar River
View the city and Cataract Gorge from the water with Tamar River Cruises on their Cataract Gorge Adventure cruise. Explore a little further with the Batman Bridge Luncheon Cruise (4-hours) where you will cruise 40 kilometres down Australia’s longest navigable estuary and experience the natural beauty and magic of Launceston’s famous Tamar Valley and the Cataract Gorge.
Time for a drink & some dinner
After a day jam packed with fun and adventure you are sure to have worked up an appetite. You are spoilt for choice in Launceston with unique bars, craft breweries and eateries ranging from family friendly to fine dining.
Be sure to check out Bar Stelo in the CBD. Bar Stelo was born in the winter of 2021 as the pop up Speakeasy Oscura, welcoming thirsty curious locals and visitors into a world that welcomed them - a hidden bar. Now she is not hidden, the doors are thrown open leaving it to you to lay the plans – while the team shake the cocktails. Stay on for dinner at Stelo at Pierre's where local produce is featured through an Italian lens.
Or start the night with an early evening stroll along Seaport Boulevard - a great way to wind down from the day and start your evening as the sun begins to dip and the river reflects the changing sky. Drop in to Bar Urbane for a pre-dinner bevvie or cocktail before heading over to Mudbar Restaurant, established for over 20 years, Mudbar has a fierce reputation for fresh, seasonal, handmade food.
