Wake up bright and early and after breakfast in Launceston start your travels heading north up the East Tamar. For a quick coffee fix before you hit the trails make sure you stop at the Coffee Devil on the corner of East Tamar Highway and Bridport Highway. Once you’re fuelled up head straight to George Town to Send It Shuttles at the Mount George Trail Head. Mount George will be your destination for the morning’s riding, offering a series of green, blue and black rides. The main line stays true to its level of difficulty but there’s often a side-line to add to the fun. Shuttle time is only 5 minutes uphill which maximises the amount of down hill you get to do!
After all the morning riding you’re sure to be starving so head to one of the local eateries in George Town; Yukiya Sushi Truck or the Low Head Pilot Station Seafood Shack. After lunch get back on the trails or take a break and head out to East Beach for a refreshing dip. If a swim is not your thing why not pre-book a visit to Fanny’s Bay Distillery to check out their whisky or visit some of the local historical attractions like the Low Head Pilot Station Museum.
As the afternoon rolls on to dusk grab a meal at the Old Pier Hotel and watch the sun go down. If you’re staying overnight, book a tour with Low Head Penguin Tours to watch the local penguins on their daily pilgrimage back to their burrows, a special sight not to be missed. Keen to do it all again? Stay the night locally or continue your travels to your next destination ready to get a great night’s sleep and start your next adventure.
