George Town Council presents "Between the Tides" by ceramicist Travis Bell and painter Elizabeth Braid, a collaborative exhibition exploring the rock pool as a small, shifting world shaped by tide and time. The exhibition brings together ceramics and painting to reflect the subtle movements, textures and fragments of life found in intertidal environments. Ceramic vessels and fluid painted surfaces capture currents, colour and change, drawing inspiration from the Tasmanian coastline and inviting visitors to look closely at a landscape that is both familiar and constantly transforming.
At the centre of the exhibition is the dialogue between the artists' practices. Bell's ceramic vessels create spaces to peer into, echoing the contained worlds of rock pools, while Braid's painted surfaces suggest shifting light, movement and the rhythms of the tide. Together the works frame the rock pool as a microcosm, where tiny landscapes mirror larger systems of erosion, adaptation and renewal.
Located beside the Kanamaluka/Tamar Estuary, George Town offers visitors a coastal landscape shaped by tides, maritime history and quiet moments of discovery. After experiencing the exhibition, travellers might explore nearby waterfront walks or visit the Bass and Flinders Maritime Museum to deepen their connection to the region's shoreline stories.
