Tassie Dhaba Beaconsfield

Tassie Dhaba started here. In November 2021 a small Indian kitchen opened on Weld Street, Beaconsfield, and word travelled up the Tamar fast enough that the name now hangs over restaurants in Launceston and Port Sorell too. The original is still the one locals call their own.

A dhaba is an eatery on India's highways, where travellers pull in for food cooked over flame and served without fuss. The Beaconsfield kitchen keeps that spirit: Punjabi street food like Amritsari kulcha, fish and chicken tikka from the tandoor, slow-cooked goat curry and breads straight from the oven. Meat comes through the group's own Launceston butcher, and every dish is cooked to the heat each guest asks for.

The licensed dining room is big and built for company, with a bar and a long communal table that suits families, touring groups and post-shift crews alike. It can also be booked out for private functions, with buffet menus built around the occasion.

All this sits in what was once Tasmania's richest gold town, a short drive from the Mine & Heritage Centre, Beauty Point and the West Tamar wine route.
