Mountain Biking

First, mountain biking! The Wild Tamar region boasts world-class trails catering to beginners and pros. George Town Mountain Bike Trails has two different networks within a ten-minute drive of George Town. The Summit Trails and East Peak Trails at Mt George feature 16km of singletrack combines the right balance of techy challenges with flowy berms, and of course in stunning surrounds. The Tippogoree Hills network has more backcountry-style riding with lots of unique features. And if you need a lift, Send It MTB Shuttles has you covered.

Scuba Diving

Next up, scuba diving! The Wild Tamar region has some of the best and most accessible diving spots in Tasmania, including shore dives in the kanamaluka/Tamar River. Cruise through a giant kelp forest and look for seahorses among the sponge gardens at The Avon tugboat wreck in York Cove.

Ready for a thrill? How about skydiving?

Tasmania Skydivers offers an all-inclusive tandem skydiving experience with epic island views. Freefall from 10,000 feet and reach speeds of up to 200 km/h before opening the parachute and catching views of Low Head Lighthouse, George Town, and the Tamar River.

Kayakers

Kayakers will find the George Town region to be a paradise with its various options for river or ocean kayaking, as well as its multitude of tranquil coves and rocky headlands. Throughout the summer season, stand-up paddling boarding is possible in the peaceful waters of York Cove, Town Beach, and East Beach. On windy days, kite and windsurfing can be enjoyed on the more exposed stretches beyond Low Head.

Climbers - watch this space!

Finally, WATCH THIS SPACE for the climbers out there, Hillwood Rock is the largest and arguably best sport climbing area in Tasmania. With almost 150 routes bolted into the basalt rock, there's plenty of climbing to do. Grades range from 15 to 28, and the cliffs face in all directions, making it climbable most of the year.

Note that Hillwood Rock is currently closed, but keep an eye on the Wild Tamar website for updates on when it is expected to reopen.

So load up your gear and head to the Wild Tamar for an epic adventure-packed weekend.
