What are some family friendly activities in Launceston?

Launceston has many green spaces perfect for families to enjoy the outdoors. Nearby Riverbend Park has a range of play equipment and experiences, including swings, diggers, sand pits, a wheelchair carousel, a water play area, musical instruments, outdoor table tennis, see-saws and a full-size sports court. The park's largest attractions are undoubtedly the Sky Walk and the 'confluence net', two of the largest pieces of play equipment in Australia.

How do you get from Launceston Airport to the city?

Taxi’s and Uber are available from Launceston Airport. The airport is located approximately 13 kilometres from the city and is a short 12-15 minute drive. If you are keen to explore beyond the city, it is recommended to hire a car during your visit – there are several rental car companies with an office and fleet at Launceston Airport.

Are there any wildlife experiences near Launceston?

Tasmania Zoo is located in Riverside a 20-minute drive from Launceston. At the zoo you can see Tasmanian Devils, and it has the largest collection of rare, exotic and native species in Tasmania. Low Head Penguin Tours operate at Low Head near George Town – the tours run every night and are fully guided. Low Head is approximately 56 kilometres from Launceston, an easily navigable drive mostly on the highway. In Cataract Gorge you can see wallabies roaming freely, peacocks putting on a display and many native birds. Tamar Island Wetlands is a short drive from Launceston, it has an accessible boardwalk, interpretation centre, and diverse birdlife.
