ATEC's Accessible & Inclusive Host Program

What are the benefits?
We asked Rexie at Seahorse World to share some insights with us following participation in ATEC's Accessible & Inclusive Host Program in 2024, and here is what she had to say.

Why did you choose to partake in the program?

Realisation that there is a gap in the tourism industry and to gain a better understanding of what Seahorse World can do to be an inclusive and accessible business.

What did you hope to get out of the program?

An action plan on how we can improve the business and also access to other resources to gain more knowledge.

What are your top three take-outs/learnings from the program?

1.No business is 100% accessible and inclusive.

2. Statistics in terms of how many people in Australia live with disability and accessibility challenges.

3. How to create a disability action plan.

Have you made any changes/improvements to your business since completing the program?

Yes, introducing tactile aids for people with low vision. I think the greatest thing we changed and pivoted towards was the team at Seahorse World having a greater understanding of what the meaning of inclusivity is and how we can impact an individuals’ experience in our business.

If so, have these delivered any measurable results yet in terms of increase in business from this target audience, and/or resulted in improved customer feedback/experience?

The focus for us was not to increase business or revenue, it was for the purpose of ensuring that everyone can experience Seahorse World and to ensure that people are aware that we are an inclusive and accessible business. We had a visit from a wonderful family, their smiles and review were more than we could ever ask for. Taking part in the program gave us a greater understanding of how we can do better in the accessible and inclusive space.
