Plan your trip

Welcome to Northern Tasmania, brought to you by Visit Northern Tasmania and the City of Launceston. This site is your go-to-resource for planning your visit to our region and with so much on offer in Tasmania you might want to venture a little further afield too.

Launceston is located in the central north right in the heart of Tasmania and it's only a few hours drive to almost anywhere on the Island. Our City is the perfect base for your adventure, explore Launceston, the Tamar Valley and more, before heading east, south-west, north-west, or south.

East Coast

The East Coast is approximately two and a half hours drive from Launceston, and is a place of remarkable beauty. Your itinerary should include Freycinet National Park, the iconic Wineglass Bay, Bay of Fires, Maria Island, St Helens, Bicheno, Coles Bay and Swansea.

Western Wilderness

The Western Wilderness encompasses the iconic Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park, Strahan, Queenstown, Zeehan, and Corinna. Visit the Wall in the Wilderness, explore the West Coast Wilderness Railway, and experience the unique wildness and isolation while cruising or kayaking on the spectacular Gordon River.

North West Coast

Stunning coastlines, welcoming little villages and bountiful fresh produce await you on your visit to the North West Coast. Sheffield, Latrobe, Devonport, Burnie, Wynyard, Boat Harbour, Rocky Cape National Park, Marrawah, the Tarkine and Arthur River are all worthy stops when travelling here. Make sure you climb the monolithic Nut which looms above Stanley – an idyllic village fronted on two sides by pristine beaches.

Southern Tasmania

Southern Tasmania is home to our State's capital city Hobart. Discover our colonial heritage in Port Arthur, apple orchards and languid rivers in the Huon Valley, precipitous coastlines of Bruny Island and Tasman Peninsula. Take time out to visit Hobart's inescapable Mt Wellington, Mt Field National Park, Richmond, Tahune Airwalk, Hastings Caves and Russell Falls.
