Following significant research, engagement and analysis, Visit Northern Tasmania (VNT) is proud to present the Launceston Convention Facilities Demand Study – 2025.

In late 2024, the Tasmanian State Government provided funding to VNT through a grant deed to undertake a demand study into the opportunity for potential convention facilities in Launceston and Northern Tasmania, as well as potential high level economic impacts that could result under a range of convention facility scenarios.

Under the governance of a broad, multi skilled Reference Group, VNT appointed Right Angle to undertake this work, in conjunction with development of a Northern Events & Festivals Infrastructure Strategy.

The Demand Study includes:

  • reviews of previous studies of relevance;
  • an examination of Tasmanian, Launceston and Northern Tasmania economic drivers;
  • a review of relevant competitive markets across Australia;
  • examination of the enabling infrastructure within Launceston;
  • a review of historical tourism and business event trends in Tasmania, Launceston and Northern Tasmania, and
  • an assessment of the market depth for business events in Launceston and Northern Tasmania, and potential associated economic impacts under a range of scenarios.

The Minister for Events endorsed this Demand Study on Tuesday 1 April 2025.

The Demand Study is the first deliverable of the project funded by State Government, and work is advancing well on the second deliverable which is the Northern Events & Festivals Infrastructure Strategy. Given there is crossover between the two deliverables of the project, some elements from the Demand Study will be used for completion of the Northern Events & Festivals Infrastructure Strategy. The project is being overseen by a skilled and experienced Reference Group which demonstrates true collaboration.
