Football is back in Launnie - and we don't mean the big sticks and Sherrin kind. From April 16-19, Western United Football Club kicks off its Festival of Football, at which the Melbourne-based club will celebrate A-League back in Tassie with a range of activities for the family plus two rostered matches. Added to the mix is local NPL football, women's exhibition matches and open training. For serious fans, there will also be a chance to grab your fave player's scribble at a signing session.
The legendary John Aloisi is the new head coach of WU, a club currently sitting second on the A-League ladder with six games to go in the regular season. Aloisi's team will be out to continue the success when it takes on Perth Glory and Macarthur at UTAS Stadium and is hoping for a repeat of last year's huge local support. Ahead of the Macarthur match on Tuesday 19 April, Western United will make history with its Women’s Development Squad playing its first ever match against a Tasmanian Select XI.
After the game, enjoy one of Launnie's endless eating options within walking distance from the Stadium, take a stroll along our famed estuary, kanamaluka/Tamar River, or visit the adjacent Queen Victoria Museum.
